Associate Dog Trainer (ADT) Diploma

April 22, 2025 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Online Dog Training Certification

At e-Training for Dogs we are extremely pleased to be able to offer a comprehensive educational program to assist dog enthusiasts to enter the exciting and rewarding career of dog trainer.

Accreditation: Since there are no formal Accrediting agencies in the United States or Canada for Dog Breeding and Genetic professionals, we have done our best to make sure that our courses are approved by the top organizations both Nationally and Internationally. As such, all of our courses are approved by the IAABC, NADOI and the CCPDT for Continuing Education Credits and Educational Events. Some schools claim they are approved by their State, but this is only as a business offering educational products, NOT true accreditation. ONLY a University has the ability to offer true accreditation.

Prerequisites: A basic knowledge of dogs as well as enthusiasm and interest in educating owners and their dogs to become well mannered participants in society.

Purpose: Develop the necessary skills to become an effective dog trainer in the canine industry.

General Diploma Information: Individuals who are passionate about improving their bonds with their own dogs or desire to become a dog trainer would greatly benefit from this unique online dog training certification program. You will explore key areas such as: How dogs developed to be our companions, psychology of dogs (how they learn), canine body language and how they interpret our body language, basic dog care, basic dog training using positive reinforcement techniques, how to end many common canine problem behaviors, and an advanced first aid course. Our program allows the flexibility for students with varying life experiences and interests to take courses that will enhance their skills and get them closer to realizing their goal of working with dogs as a profession.

Please note: This is not an “email” or “mail order” Certificate. Though it is available 100% over the internet, this is a very “hands on” program when required. Skills learned must be demonstrated by video submissions to your instructors. (NOTE: Not all courses require videos). Other courses will require you to develop business and marketing plans, your own dog training classes, and more. This is an intensive program and you will need to demonstrate your learning. The power of the internet allows sending videos as homework and final exams easy and effective. We are the first and only school that adheres to these strict measures and our students are respected as a result. We also do more than train you how to use a clicker. We provide the theory behind the skills to our students.

What students can expect to learn from this program:

  • To understand canine behavior and how they communicate with each other and with us.
  • How to shape dog behavior using conditioning and reinforcement.
  • Basic problem behaviors and how to solve these.
  • How canine biology and evolution effects behavior.
  • Canine cognition, including awareness, perception, reasoning, memory and judgment.
  • Basic dog care and nutrition.
  • How to start and run a dog business

Possible career opportunities on completion of this diploma program: Self employment as a dog trainer or as an employee within a dog training facility, animal rehabilitation facility, humane society, rescue or other supportive canine care and educational facility.

From Lisa Russell after taking her CBCC-KA exam – “…anyone wanting to either learn about the dynamics of canine behavior, interaction and social structure should take the Understanding Canine Behavior course. This course will not only provide you with detailed knowledge to be successful with working dogs but will also help prepare those desiring to take the CCPDT exams. You may think you know everything there is about dog behavior but this course leaves no doubt in your mind, all the while enhancing your knowledge and sharpening your observation skills through photo and video presentations, which worked for me. I would recommend this course to advanced trainers and a must for beginners in the field of training dogs.  “

I would consider this a five star course.  There is a great deal of information that is managabley covered in 10 units for 6 months.  Learning to see and determine a dog’s emotional state and dog to do interactions is thoroughly disected in still photos and videos.  Reading the papers, studies and articles  adds layers of understanding.  Finally, the recquired book, Canine Behavior, A photo illustrated Handbook, is a fantastic addition to any trainers library.
