From Cindy-I really enjoyed the course. It was challenging yet great to be able to do it at my own pace.  Sheilagh was a great instuctor and was always there to help and encourage me when I needed it. I would recommend this course and any other course that you may have to offer.
Dear Cheryl, I am so pleased to tell you that I have successfully completed all my Levels for Canine Massage. I enjoyed the training program and found it to be extremely well presented. Sigle has been a great Teacher, always there when you need a question answered. I am now looking forward to embarking on a wonderful journey with my Canine friends. Sincerely, Kathleen D.
Treetops provided a program that covered all the bases. Sigle was always there with her incredible knowledge and experience when I had a question and was very quick to grade worksheets and videos. I feel very prepared to embark on my new Canine Massage career. The satisfaction and joy that providing massage to these lovely companions can’t be beat. Pam R.
Sheilagh is a great teacher. Her style of teaching truly makes the course more understandable and interesting ,specially when dealing with the intense topics. Her feedback was always well explained and gave me great insight to the particular topic at hand. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would definitely recommend it . Pauline Back
Testimonial –Without the support and guidance both you and Sheilagh afforded me I would not have been able to complete the Canine Massage Therapy program. It was a pleasure working with you throughout the duration of this program. There a many programs online for massage therapy, and I really searched and reviewed many of those programs,  I chose e-training for dogs because the structure and content was laid out professionally, the content was loaded with so much learning from basic to advance. As I worked through the content I found myself saying  “as a dog owner I should have known this much sooner”  I am so thankful I chose  e-training for dogs.com, Sheilagh’s knowledge and experience is world class, second to none. Your support both technically and administratively is A+,  the program delivery/platform is awesome. I definitely will be back to take more courses and I have and will continue to recommend e-training for dogs to my friends and relatives. THANK-YOU  CHERYL  Robin Minaker

Athletic Performance Fitness Strategies: How to Condition an Athletic Performance Dog

March 29, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Conditioning the performance dogConditioning the Performance Dog

Purpose: Two-fold: (1) to recognize the unique needs of your performance dog as an elite athlete and develop a conditioning program which will lead to a long, productive career – not just a good run, and (2) to achieve the greater goal of providing your Performance dog with a more comfortable, energetic retirement.

Instructor: Racine Hyatt, CCFT CCM

Course Information: The emphasis is on conditioning the performance dog, for both competition and service dogs, and will focus on the many factors which may reduce the risk and/or severity of injuries for dogs dealing with the multi-stresses of working lives. This course focus is multi-faceted.  You will learn how to not only take your dog’s physical fitness to a new level, the Conditioning program will create variety {which is the key to maintaining mental sharpness for any working dog} and result in tapering {a technique which will keep the dog’s performance at its peak by avoiding undue stress and preventing staleness}.

Pre-requisites: There are two prerequisites for this course –

  1. Students must have completed the e-Training course in Canine Anatomy and Physiology or have successfully tested out from it (see details on the test out option on the Canine Anatomy and Physiology Course page)
  2. A student must have a minimum Intermediate level of achievement in dog sports, or 1 year previous work experience with a service/working/sport dog.

What a student can expect to learn from this course:

  • Structural evaluation of a dog as it relates to performance
  • Be able to identify areas of weakness and create a “Problem List”
  • Identify the five important physical attributes for the performance dog
  • The steps to develop a Conditioning program
  • How to evaluate structure in relation to Performance
  • Basic understanding of sport related injury, recovery and prevention
  • Intensity / Duration / Frequency: the importance of each & how to use them
  • Balance and proprioception: the keys to achieve optimal performance and enhanced wellness
  • Strength vs. Endurance – how to combine them successfully
  • Fitness Program development *templates provided
  • Skills that will enhance abilities to raise and train each dog better than the last
  • Students are required to turn in written and video homework.

March 29, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

This 3-part program will provide the student with the information necessary to manage and supplement a dog’s over-all wellness from puppy to athlete to senior dog. Each course may be taken separately or as a combination. Each course is priced separately but if taken as an entire program (all three courses) there is a savings of $120 (See bottom of page).

Part I
All-Fit Dog-How to Improve Fitness for Over-all Wellness
Purpose:
This is the foundation course and this program will provide the student with the information and skills they need to manage a dog’s unique and ever changing fitness needs {from puppy hood, as a young adult and a Senior} in order to improve overall health, prevent illness & injury and enhance the dog’s ability to recover when crisis happens.

Course Information: The All-Fit Dog program uses a broad, general and inclusive fitness model to enhance overall elements of health using only functional movement exercises and activities as these are mechanically sound and safe for all dogs at all ages. The techniques which achieve optimal fitness in the elite canine athlete will enhance fitness in all dogs – the needs of each dog differ by degree not kind, so we scale exercise volume and intensity NOT requirements.

Pre-requisites: Canine Anatomy & Physiology is recommended
Required Text: DogWorks Fun-damental Exercise Workbook

What the student can expect to experience during this course:

  • Anatomy and the 10 Elements of Health
  • To identify the Essential Functional Attributes for dogs

Part II- All-Fit Puppy-How to Support Each Stage of a Puppy’s Development
Purpose: 8 lesson webinar where you learn how puppies grow, what their nutritional and exercise needs are to enhance body awareness, self-confidence and to support each stage of your puppy’s development.

Course Information: This course will focus on puppies from eight weeks up to eighteen months of age. We begin with structural evaluation of your dog as it relates to function – in other words we are evaluating for purpose, not for fancy. This will reveal your puppy’s areas of weakness (i.e. straight shoulders, high neck set, no dewclaws, cow-hocked, sloping croup, etc). Each session will be dedicated to a different region of the dog as we discuss the different stages of development, including growth plate closure and use this information to guide us as we develop a more conscious approach to puppy development instead of destruction.
