What is the difference between LIVE and ONDEMAND?

November 18, 2010 By Cheryl Aguiar |

LIVE: In a LIVE class you will listen to and speak with the instructor in an online / virtual classroom with other students. You will watch the power point presentation and video clips in real time while listening to the instructor either via a telephone audio conference or through VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) through the speakers on your computer. You will be able to ask questions and receive answers in real time. LIVE classes meet at set days and times weekly, biweekly or monthly. Assignments, quizzes and examinations are completed at set intervals.

ONDEMAND: In an ONDEMAND class (occassionally referred to as a Recorded class) you will watch classes on demand. The OnDemand class has been prerecorded and is identical in course content to a Live class but you will not be listening to the class or be able to speak with your instructor in real time. You will access a link to the class at a day and time that is convenient to you. You will then proceed to complete all assignments, quizzes and examinations at your own pace. NOTE: there will still be a course completion deadline. Failure to complete the course by the deadline will result in an Incomplete on your transcript unless you have arranged for an extension with your instructor. Extensions are granted for extenuating circumstances. Your instructor will be available via email (or telephone during set office hours) to answer questions and concerns related to the course material.
