Julie Hecht, MSc, is a canine behavioral researcher and science writer. She manages Alexandra Horowitz’s Dog Cognition Lab at Barnard College in NYC where they have studied topics such as dog olfaction, inter-species play behavior, theory of mind, and anthropomorphisms. While getting her Masters in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare from the University of Edinburgh, she conducted her Masters research on the dog “guilty look” with the Family Dog Project in Budapest under Márta Gácsi and Ádám Miklósi.
Julie is an Adjunct Professor in the Anthrozoology Masters Program at Canisius College and an Animal Behavior PhD student at the City University of New York. She regularly holds lectures for the general public, trainers and student groups.
