EQUINE ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE

Purpose: In the Equine Anatomy and Physiology course you will learn the relationship between how the equine body is composed, how it works and the impact massage therapy will have on these systems.

Course Information: Detailed training in equine anatomy and physiology; equine biomechanics and kinesiology; understanding the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology and massage therapy in horses. The course involves the use of three textbooks used by the Veterinary Nursing Program in the U.K. and 18 hours of classroom instruction. The course is designed to give the students the necessary information in order to understand the relationship between how the body is composed, how it works and the impact massage therapy will have on these systems. Knowledge level upon successful completion on the course will be equivalent to that of a Veterinary Nurse/Technician. Students will be provided with a free comprehensive manual.   • Lymphatic System
  • Blood

  • Normal functioning of the above systems.
  • Pathophysiology of the above systems.
  • Anatomical terminology.
  • The relationship between anatomy, physiology and the rehabilitation process.

Course Completion Deadline: This course must be completed in entirety within 4 months from the date of registration.

Tartaglia, Louise and Waugh, Anne.Veterinary Physiology and Applied Anatomy – Revised Reprint: A Textbook for Veterinary Nurses and Technicians, Butterworth-Heinemann, London England, 2005
Reece, William O., Functional Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals 4th Edition, Wiley-Blackwell, 2009
Bassert, Joanna M., and Colville, Thomas P., Clinical Anatomy and Physiology for Veterinary Technicians 2nd edition, Mosby, 2007
In addition, students nee to have ONE of the following colouring books:
Kapit, Wynn., Macey, Robert I., Meisami, Esmail., The Physiology Coloring Book 2nd Edition, Benjamin Cummings, 1999
Kanier, Robert A. and McCracken, Thomas O. Horse Anatomy, A Coloring Atlas, Alpine Publications, Loveland, Colorado, 1998
Students will need access to a Medical Dictionary either hard copy or online.
