All-Fit Dog-How to Improve Fitness for Over-all Wellness

January 20, 2012 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Dog Fitness Training ClassDog Fitness Training Class

Purpose: The Dog Fitness Training Class is the foundation course and this program will provide the student with the information and skills they need to manage a dog’s unique and ever changing fitness needs {from puppy hood, as a young adult and a Senior} in order to improve overall health, prevent illness & injury and enhance the dog’s ability to recover when crisis happens.

Course Information: The All-Fit Dog program uses a broad, general and inclusive fitness model to enhance overall elements of health using only functional movement exercises and activities as these are mechanically sound and safe for all dogs at all ages. The techniques which achieve optimal fitness in the elite canine athlete will enhance fitness in all dogs – the needs of each dog differ by degree not kind, so we scale exercise volume and intensity NOT requirements. You will be required to demonstrate some exercises by video using a dog to complete this program for credit.

Pre-requisites: Canine Anatomy & Physiology is recommended

What the student can expect to experience during this course:

  • Anatomy and the 10 Elements of Health
  • To identify the Essential Functional Attributes for dogs
  • Ability to discuss the consequences of health and well being when fundamental structural traits are weak
  • Gait assessment
  •  Exercises to enhance Endurance, Strength, Flexibility and Body Awareness
  • An enlightened appreciation of fitness as a measure of health
  • Exercises for function & performance – not to isolate and build (specific) muscle
  • Structural evaluation as it relates to function and injury potential
  • Proprioception – the key to optimal fitness
  • Nutritional considerations – diet is the molecular foundation for fitness & health
  • All-Fit Puppies {recommendations to avoid early onset injuries before 18 months}
  • Vital Fit for Life Senior Dogs – The Keys to Slowing the Clock
  • Skills that will enhance the students’ ability to raise each dog better than the last.
  • Students are required to turn in written and video homework.

Testimonial: OMG, I’m working on my Lesson 2 Homework and am realizing that I haven’t really been “looking” at Jasper if you know what I mean.  He is in far worse shape than I thought he was.  Shame on me!  So glad I’m taking your program! (Yvette M.)
