Learn dog behavior games to meet the behavioral wellness of your dog. 101 Things to Do Beyond the Box explores the next chapter in meeting the needs of our companion animals, from a behavioral standpoint. The “101 things to do with a box” shaping game was first introduced by Karen Pryor, where a dog is reinforced for interacting with a box in some meaningful way. The behaviors that are initially reinforced dictate the end behavior. In addition to meeting the physical wellness needs of their pets, owners need to understand the importance of meeting their behavioral wellness as well. More than just the absence of behavior issues, behavioral wellness addresses the species specific needs of companion animals; specific to this lecture-dogs.

This lecture will explore the need for and benefits of creating an environment for our companion animals that is: -rich in mental stimulation -offers enrichment opportunities -uses early learning and socialization opportunities -creates a responsive vs reactive companion -delves into empowerment and creative problem solving We will also explore reasons for relinquishment of companion animals and discuss how creating an enriching environment based on their behavioral needs can play a major impact in that role.

By taking this lecture, you will be better equipped to help your clients meet the behavioral wellness needs of their dogs, and to meet your own dogs behavioral wellness needs.
