Developing Self-Control in Dogs with Behavioral Issues-Ethology and Canine Behavior Lecture

September 12, 2012 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Dog Self Control

Speaker: Dee Ganley, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, CABC

Description: Dee Ganley, author of “Changing People, Changing Dogs” covers several practical methods of teaching dogs to achieve self control. This 90 minute lecture is jam-packed with information and video demonstrations that will have you and your dog, or your clients and their dogs, on their way to a happy and satisfying relationship. You will learn how to take your dog on calm and enjoyable leash walks, control exits from the house or car, be off leash in dog parks and much more. Dog self control is critical for a happy and peaceful relationship with your dog. Your dog will be happier and so will you! There are several “how to”  handouts for you with this webinar.

Excerpt-

What is the opposite of self-control? OUT-OF-CONTROL!!! Being out-of-control is what
brings almost all of the dogs to us. Obedience behavior by itself does not teach selfcontrol.
We start with the absolute basics. We use what the dog wants and show him how
to “manipulate” us to get it.
· To go through a door, the door will not open unless the dog backs up.
· To get attention and treats at the door, the dog has to put his butt on the ground.
· To go for a walk, the dog has to wear a gentle leader or sensation-harness and not
pull while out walking.
These are not obedience behaviors. They are self-control behaviors – but they are what
99% of the pet owning public desperately wants from their pets.
