Cissy Stamm pioneered the use of service dogs for PTSD and has been partnered with a Service Dog in NYC for the past twenty years. Her dogs are multi-disability trained to mitigate her own PTSD, hearing loss, and balance issues. Cissy has had both canine partners who were professionally trained for her and those she owner trained.
Cissy is an active advocate on behalf of people who use service dogs – educating businesses and public services such as the city transportation agencies, on the rights of people who use service dogs. She also educates and advocates regarding the rights of places of public accommodation to exclude Service Dogs who create a disruptions. She explains that a dog who disrupts the normal flow of business within stores, medical facilities, restaurants, etc. may be legally evicted from the premises but that the handler may return without the dog.
Cissy’s volunteer activities also include advocating for the use of service dogs by Veterans with PTSD. She is a skilled community mediator, who has been practicing for 15 years.
