Joyce Wampler, Morocco

..JoyceWampler-Tangier2012. It is not the easiest program available. I studied all that was out there and found e-training to fulfill everything to move forward in the learning process. I have a few more goals, and will begin to settle in to refreshers and continuing education. I love learning and have really enjoyed experiencing the learning experience through the professionals you have enlisted in your programs. This will not be the last time you hear from me. I have other goals and desires to fulfill in order to help more people and animals. Many blessings to you, Heddie L.

I am a dog trainer in Morocco for the past three years. I just finished the Associate Dog Trainers course with E-Training for Dogs. I love it! I learned so much throughout the course. The teaching staff and Cheryl were very helpful and encouraging to me. I couldn’t have done it without them! I am excited to use my new dog training knowledge in Morocco. I plan to take more courses with E-training for dogs. Joyce W.

I am a pedigree German, bred and raised there, unfortunately without exposure to keeping dogs, and moved to Southern Africa in 1988. I got involved in dog obedience training in Namibia in 1993 when my first dogs, 2 staffies, ran my life. I started teaching training classes in 1995 (unfortunately the traditional way) and I even managed to pass the KUSA obedience A-Test with Shandy, one of the staffies. During this journey I started crossing over to more positive training methods and taught myself clicker training, which I now use in training all my dogs.
My interest in therapy work started in 2006, and in February 2007, I qualified with my Rottweiler Rayah as therapy dog team. In March 2009, with the help of friends and my husband Piet, we established our own therapy dog organisation, Caring Friends Therapy Dogs. I am currently working my Russian Black Terrier Aleks as therapy dog, since Rayah has mostly retired from the work. I also have 2 Golden Retrievers (Molly & Kimba), both being qualified therapy dogs, too.
In October 2010, I started my own dog training school, Happy Tails Dog Training Center, in the Vaal Triangle (South Africa), initially focusing on therapy dog training, but due to demand, extending into puppy and pet dog training classes. Although I had acquired my Advanced Behaviourist certificate with the Pretoria Technikon in 2003 and studied many books on positive training methods and canine behaviour, I felt I lacked more hands on experience and guidance. I enrolled in the ADT programme with “e-Training for Dogs”, to gain further qualifications and knowledge that would help me grow my training school into a professional establishment. Although the journey through the programme was long and tedious (only due to lack of time I could devote to my studies), it was a wonderful experience. The instructors were all exceptionally helpful and the study material of outstanding quality. I feel privileged to have studied under such reputable trainers and behaviourists, and have gained invaluable knowledge and experience throughout the modules. I now feel ready and equipped to grow my training school to new heights and my goal is to become the “Brand Name in Dog Training” in our area. Thank you, Cheryl, for your guidance throughout and for offering such a great programme. I look forward to attending more courses with the International College for Canine Studies, for further enrichment.

Breeding and Genetics Diploma

May 12, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Breeding and geneticsAt e-Training for Dogs we are extremely pleased to be able to offer a comprehensive dog breeding and genetics diploma to assist dog enthusiasts and professionals to develop the knowledge and skills to provide informed breeding decisions.

Prerequisites: None

Purpose: This Dog breeding and genetics diploma is designed for breeders, dog professionals or individuals interested in enhancing their study of dogs. Emphasis will be on the biology, evolution, genetics, and the early environmental influences on dogs.

General Diploma Information: Individuals who are passionate about improving their breeding programs would greatly benefit from this unique program. It is accepted in the scientific community that the principles of natural and selective breeding show themselves in the resulting animal’s behavior as well as its physical characteristics. Studies tell us that genetics determine aproximately 60% of behavior and the environment (“how,” “when” and “what” in the raising of the dog) determine approximately 40%, as long as those environments are within a normal range of experiences. Since it is possible to exert a great deal of control over the genetic and rearing environments of canines, this Diploma is essential for a complete understanding of dogs in our society. You will explore key areas such as: species origin, evolution of the species, genetics, biology and the interrelationship of these on ability, conformation, temperament and behaviour.

What students can expect to learn from this program:

  • To understand the links between behavior and the origin, evolution, genetics and biology of the dog.
  • To understand how the evolutionary background, biology, and genetics, impact canine behavior.
  • To understand how the early experiences of canines impact their behavior.
  • To understand how the prenatal and postnatal environment can be optimized to affect a canine’s development and behavior.
  • Gain an understanding of complete canine genetics.
  • The Breeding and Genetics Diploma will be provided when all required courses have been satisfactorily completed.

Program Length: Most students work on the program on a part time basis and complete the program within 12 months.

Program Curriculum: Students must successfully complete the six (6) required courses.

Required Courses:

Canine Genetics

Health, Development and Life Stages of Dogs

Dog Origin and Early History

Breeding and Whelping

Puppy Imprinting and Bonding

Puppy Behavior and Socialization Course

Acknowledgement of Course and Diploma Completion: Letters of completion and where offered, Certificates, will be sent for each course as it is earned.
