How to Build the Perfect Puppy: Quick – Puppies UN-Puzzled

November 14, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Preventing Injuries & the need for Rehabilitation by Preserving Function in 60 minutes!

Course Information: The concepts behind all the theories discussed in our PreHab for Puppies course are based on and begin with scientific facts – growth plate closure times, the imbalance these create and the risks of injuries due to asymmetrical muscle and connective tissue development.

Intrigued?

We begin by asking, how much stress can immature bodies endure without suffering long-term negative consequences?
Our approach to raising puppies up to 2yrs of age provides exercise and activity suggestions which are safe and appropriate for the age and stage of growth your puppy is at in order to avoid the risk of early onset micro-injuries that set in motion many of the degenerative conditions commonly blamed on poor genetics and aging.
We discuss Angulation, Structural Extremes and identify the five important (physical) attributes for puppies.
This introductory presentation will provide you with some of the most significant Injury factors – including growth (which creates its own form of stress); the risks of inappropriate exercise and a sample guideline to providing safe activities.
Our section on Nutritional considerations is just the basics of feeding to support health and activity yet will give you enough information that you will be able to make informed choices about a diet for your puppy.
Finally we give some examples of the exercise recommendations we make during the PreHab for Puppies course which will support strong, healthy muscle development and avoid the pitfalls of too much too soon! Like Doggie Yoga!

Introduction to All Fit Dog

November 14, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Over-all Fitness for all dogs at all stages of life!

Course Information: “Fitness” is one of the measures of the 10 elements of health that exercise will enhance and/or improve. The All-Fit Dog program uses a fitness model designed to improve all elements of health (also known as physical skills) using functional movement (exercises) to strengthen muscles, enhance endurance & flexibility in addition to preventing injuries and improve recovery when crisis happens.

The All-Fit Dog program addresses issues of soundness created by inherited structural weaknesses that are not simple differences of opinion any longer. They are about the fundamentals of essential conformation and functional movement for health and well being. Degenerative conditions created by inherited instability are not defensible any longer as too many of the fundamental traits for sound conformation which are essential, for and now unable, to support life are being sacrificed.

During this presentation we will introduce you to the various topics we discuss during the All-Fit Dog course: Fitness, Exercise, and the 10 Elements of Health and Nutritional considerations. Have you ever wondered what the EFA’s are for a dog to be “fit for life”, how structure will affect gait, muscle development and overall fitness levels? Finally we will provide some food for thought for puppies and the various changes we can make so our dogs can experience healthy aging with vitality.

All-Fit Puppy-How to Support Each Stage of a Puppy’s Development

August 31, 2011 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Purpose: 8 lesson webinar where you learn how puppies grow, what their nutritional and exercise needs are to enhance body awareness, self-confidence and to support each stage of your puppy’s development.

Course Information: This course will focus on puppies from eight weeks up to eighteen months of age. We begin with structural evaluation of your dog as it relates to function – in other words we are evaluating for purpose, not for fancy. This will reveal your puppy’s areas of weakness (i.e. straight shoulders, high neck set, no dewclaws, cow-hocked, sloping croup, etc). Each session will be dedicated to a different region of the dog as we discuss the different stages of development, including growth plate closure and use this information to guide us as we develop a more conscious approach to puppy development instead of destruction.

Prerequisites: None

Please note: In the For Credit course, you will need access to a puppy or dog to complete your required homework.

Instructor:  Racine Hyatt, CCFT CCM
