How to Train Your Dog Using Positive Methods

February 3, 2012 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Purpose: Teach your dog basic obedience by developing and strengthening a trusting relationship between you and your dog using positive reinforcement.

Course Information: This class is designed for any dog over the age of six months who has never taken a training class before or needs a refresher on basic manners. The owner will learn how to precisely signal his dog’s correct response with a small hand-held “clicker” and reward the behavior so that it will more likely happen again. Obedience exercises such as sit, stand, down, and stay are introduced, as are loose-leash walking, polite greetings, “leave-it”, attention and the really reliable recall – skills crucial to the pet dog living in our society. The owner will gain a better understanding of what dogs need and can be expected to achieve dogs in the household.
