Pet Stress – Is Your Pet Stressed?

June 1, 2013 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Pet StressPet Stress? Yes, our pets get stressed too.

Speaker:  Dr. Ava Frick, DVM

In addition to the obvious environmental events and circumstances, there are some underlying reasons why this can happen to one animal and not another.  Dr. Frick, DVM,  will share with you what happens in the body to set your pet up to develop anxiety and behavior related disorders and what you can do to prevent and change the outcome.  The focus of this presentation will be the energy wave patterns of the brain and how those can be improved using microcurrent therapy, vitamins, minerals, and heavy metals that affect the personality and how those deficiencies or toxicities can be diagnosed and corrected.

This program will outline, based on decades of publications, what happens to the autonomic nervous system when the endocrine organs are exposed to repeated stressors.  Dr. Ava Frick will use over 700 canine cases and other research that support a trend of specific nutrient deficiencies of zinc, calcium and magnesium, which correlate to emotional stress, anxiety, and the inability to cope.   As the world’s leading authority in veterinary microcurrent therapy Dr. Frick will discuss how cranial electrotherapy stimulation, a prescription medical device FDA cleared for anxiety, insomnia, and depression, can be used on pets at home along with the dietary additions to balance the autonomic nervous system and reduce their stress, improving quality of life.

Attendees will learn:

  • Stress factors that affect animal lives
  • What these stress factors do to the Autonomic Nervous System
  • How nutrient alterations factor into the development of fear, anxiety, and stress behaviors
  • Science behind microcurrent therapy for treating behavior and endocrine disorders
  • Examples of how to apply cranial microcurrent therapy to change pets’ stress perspectives
  • How to use a simple test to determine if an animal is stressed

This lecture was recorded live June 11, 2013 and is now available as a recording.

Applying Modern Genetic Principles to Improve the Health of Dogs

May 1, 2013 By Cheryl Aguiar |

CrystalDuck How the Everyday Breeder Can Apply Modern Genetic Principles to Improve the Health of their Dogs

Speaker:  Martine Huslig, MS, BCGC

In the breeding of animals, population genetic principles and statistical equations are often used to address the concepts of breeding selection.  These principles are appropriate for livestock breeding to improve milk production or milk protein content; however, elaborate mathematical equations based on huge databases of information are not particularly useful to the average dog breeder hoping to make valid breeding decisions within their breed or family of dogs. On the other end of the extreme–molecular genetic research projects attempt to find or find an individual gene causing a specific disease.

Some of the topics to be covered in this webinar include:

  • How to use practical genetic principles to help in making breeding decisions to improve health and/or achieve breeding goals
  • How to construct and evaluate a medical genetic pedigree and how to use this information
  • Use simple examples that most breeders employ and then use these to illustrate how the same principles can be used to consider or address a health issue
  • Applying modern genetic principles to improve the health of dogs

The key goals are:

  • To understand that genetics is about family and which relatives are the most important to consider in breeding decisions.
  • To give breeders a tool to attempt to address certain issues occurring in a  pedigree (or attain goals) in the absence of a large database of information, genetic testing or a molecular genetic research project.

All-Fit Dog – A Whole Dog Approach to Over-All Fitness

December 13, 2012 By Cheryl Aguiar |

Dog Fitness Class

This recorded dog fitness class by Racine Hyatt, CCFt, CCM, will introduce the participants to a broad, general and inclusive total fitness approach designed to support all ten elements of health.  We start with the all important molecular foundation for fitness and health – nutritional considerations.  Once we reveal the EFA’s for an All-Fit dog, we will discuss some of the ways weak structural aspects affect the dog’s fitness levels.  Our exercise techniques focus on functional movement that is mechanically sound and safe for all dogs at all stages of life; the needs of each dog vary by degree not kind, so we scale volume & intensity rather than change requirements.  Finally we demonstrate how these subtle changes are crucial for puppies and senior dogs. The program contains a downloadable fitness plan for your dog with examples of exercises.
