This series of three courses will guide you through the sometimes confusing landscape of service dog ownership.

Who should attend?

  • Persons with disabilities who are considering getting a service dog
  • Persons with disabilities who are waiting for a service dog and want to be better prepared
  • Family members of persons with disabilities considering or waiting for a service dog
  • Professional dog trainers seeking the knowledge and skills to work in the Service Dog field

I. How to Get a Service Dog A Guide for Persons with Disabilities who are considering getting a Service Dog.

II. Getting Ready for a Service Dog A Guide for Persons with Disabilities who are in the process of getting a Service Dog to prepare their lives for a Service Dog.

III. When you Get a Service Dog A Guide to help Persons with Disabilities who have gotten a Service Dog to be better able to make an effective transition to living with a full-time canine partner.

These courses are taught by Myra Fourwinds of Dog Services. Myra developed this curriculum as a bridge to help people move from thinking about getting a service dog through the steps needed to prepare for living with a service dog, through adjusting to the changes required when your service dog arrives. This curriculum has been successful for people with a variety of disabilities over a period of the last ten years, and Myra is happy to be able to share this information more broadly.
