Dog Breeding and Genetics

Course length: 6 lessons
Purpose: To provide the information needed for a critical discussion concerning the relevance and consideration of genetics in dog breeding.
Course Info: Gain an understanding of the role genetics play in producing behaviors and aptitudes in dogs. This course will provide a thorough understanding of the nature of heredity; evolutionary and behavioral genetics; the application of genetics to specific breeds; the art of breed selection; breeding for coat and color; improving structural traits and how to control for genetic disorders. Students will come away with an understanding of how genetics influence both the physical and behavioral characteristics of the dog. The emphasis will be on genetics.
